Yes they are. My mom went through one, I don’t remember the name, I’m sorry that completely defeats the purpose of your question. But yes, I think you should do that. They definitely help out a lot. And my moms credit is totally clear and back to a normal rate. So, find one that is local, and legitimate, and go for it. Sorry about losing your job. Tough times right now. Good luck for the future.

Well, there are many that are suspicious. However, I use the National Foundation for Consumer Credit Counseling. I heard about it from reading from Clark Howard’s book. This one is legit because it’s actually funded by the credit card companies. And unlike the other “so-called” counseling services, you see the money deducted from your actual billing statments from each credit card.
