Do NOT do this until you have spent a few days listening to Dave Ramsey.
List your bills smallest to largest and start paying anything extra you can on the smallest loan. Then move on to the next.
Open all your envelopes and list exactly what you owe. Use a spreadsheet. Get a plan and stick with it. You can do this yourself.

I heard this in suze ormond and then I researched it on the net and its true.
This is how they work.
They tell you to stop paying your bills and not to worry about them.
For this they charge you a fee.
This is their thinking.
That if bills continue to be unpaid the credit card companies will get nervous and settle. What they dont tell you is cc companies will still continue to call you and you will still be charged late fees and interest in the cards.
Suze said that some settle (they reduce fees), but some dont. They take you to court anyway.
Google debt consolidation complaints. There are pages upon pages of people crying how they have lost everything. It will open your eyes.
Try a national federal credit counceling. They will charge you about $25/month and give you advise on what to do.
As far as I’m concerned you can call the cc companies and do this yourself. Threaten to close the accounts if they don’t settle for an amount you mention. (make sure amount you mention covers everything you have charged). Fees can be removed, original purchases cant.

Never use CCC !!
It is a lie !!
They make a percentage of the payments that you do pay.
Your credit is adversly affected.
Do what they do, call and negotiate a discount and threaten BK!

I met with a debt consolidation firm. They had me list all of my bills and all of my income. Together we decided if I could afford to pay off my loans and credit cards. If I could afford to live and make the needed payment I would have had to stop using all credit cards. For a small monthly fee they would have set up a plan where I made a monthly payment to them and they paid my bills. They would have contacted my creditors and had my interest rates reduced or dismissed.
In my case it was determined that I could not afford to pay my bills on my income and bankruptcy was my only option.
Meeting with them one time did not cost me anything and I got a lot of useful info. I say give them a call and go in for one meeting to see where you stand. Be sure that the meeting will not cost you anything before you go in.
