This is a very hard question to answer since there are so many scam companies out there. Your best bet would be to search the Internet for as many companies as you can find, write down the companies name address telephone number etc. Once you have all that information go to the Better Business Bureau and (www.bbb.org) and find out if they are a member and what types of complaints that have already been filed against the company you are checking.

A good friend of mine was deeply in debt and had a bad experience with credit counselors but I found a site that offered this and had screened their references to be sure they were legit. Check them out.
